Effects of Allium , Merit Blue , and Soluble P-K Formulae on Budbreak in Differentially Chilled ¢¥ Campbell Early ¢¥ Grapevines

Abstract
Effects of Allium-based formulae such as garlic juice (G) and the extracts of ethanol (GAE) and ethyl ether (GEE), onion juice (O) and the extracts of ethanol (OAE) and ethyl ether (OEE), Merit Blue (MB), soluble P-K formula 1 (PK1) and 2 (PK2) applications to greenhouse-grown 3-year-old and differentially chilled 2-year-old ¢¥Campbell Early¢¥ grapevines on budbreak were examined. PKl was most effective and hastened the budbreak for 10 days in greenhouse-grown vines. Days to budbreak were inversely related to chilling duration in 2-year-old vines. G hastened the budbreak of unchilled vines by 15 days. Although the effects dwindled as the chilling duration was prolonged, G and O hastened the budbreak in vines chilled for 30 days while O was effective when chilled for 60 days. Percent budbreak of field or greenhouse-grown vines increased by MB treatment followed by soluble PK formulae. G increased the % budbreak of vines chilled for 30 days while soluble PK formulae resulted in stable budbreak. All the treatments were effective in increasing the % budbreak in vines chilled for 60 days, among which O formulae were most effective. Percent budbreak increased as the chilling duration prolonged.
